Harmon Completes Final Unit for 160 Front Street in Toronto
On July 20, 2023, Harmon finished building the last unit for 160 Front Street in downtown Toronto, prompting the official top-off of curtain wall at the jobsite the next day.
A prime location in Toronto’s Financial District, 160 Front Street West is a 47-story, steel-framed commercial office tower, a dramatic new addition to the city’s skyline. Despite facing complex challenges, the Harmon team leveraged its engineering and manufacturing expertise to develop intricate design solutions.
A CHALLENGING – BUT STUNNING – CURTAIN WALL DESIGN
The state-of-the-art exterior façade is enveloped with Harmon’s high-performance curtain wall and consists of several complex and defining features. Complicated ridge corner frames were created for the crown’s steel model to properly anchor frames, and the inlet required curved extrusions with LEDS and fall protection for its 2-story balcony. The design is also tapered at the top and bottom to resist wind and increase pedestrian comfort at the street level.
From curved and sloping integrated skylight curtain wall units on exposed steel to massive, 25-foot frames embedded with more than 6,500 LEDs, the tower included no shortage of highly involved design elements. The team’s ability to collaborate and problem solve enabled Harmon to execute against expectations and earn the trust of our clients and partners.
This mixed-use project is targeting LEED Platinum and WELL Building Standard certifications and plans to open its doors in 2024.
